Signs of Poor Fitting Dentures

Denture Problems

These problems can usually be fixed with one or two adjustments to your dentures.

One of the most common complaints dentists hear about dentures is them not fitting well. The good news is that this is often a common issue, and your dentist can work with you to make sure the problem is corrected. Listed below are some of the most common signs of dentures fitting poorly.

Dentures Start to Slip

Dentures slipping are one of the most obvious signs that your dentures do not fit correctly. Your denture should not come out when you laugh, eat, sneeze, or talk. If your denture does come out from these activities, you need to have your dentures relined. You may even need to get your dentures replaced.

Denture Sores Form

Your dentures rubbing against your gums generally cause denture sores. This slowly starts to cause irritation and eventually becomes painful. Some people will try and “tough it out” and think the pain will go away, but the pain will remain because the sores can’t heal. The dentures will keep rubbing against your gums, and you could experience more and more sores. The only way to fix this issue is to get your dentures to properly fit in your mouth.

Denture Pain

Sometimes people will experience denture sores, but pain can also be caused even before sores start to develop. If you notice movement with your dentures, this could be the source of the pain. But, you may also be experiencing pain because your dentures are causing an uneven balance in your bite force. This causes some spots in your mouth to experience a painful force when you chew. To figure out exactly what is causing the pain, you need to make an appointment with your dentist in Annapolis.

Eating Issues

If your dentures fit properly, you should be able to eat most of the foods you normally did with your natural teeth. When you have trouble eating food, however, this is an indication that your dentures do not fit correctly. This is a sign that you do not have an optimal fit with your dentures, so you will want to see your dentist as soon as possible to correct the issue.

Difficulty Cleaning Dentures

If you notice some food residue on the outside of your dentures, don’t freak out! This is normal. But, if you notice that there are more and more food particles getting stuck on the inside of your dentures, it’s a sing your dentures don’t fit correctly. Your dentures should create a naturally good seal that helps prevent material from getting inside the denture.
