Start with the treatment goal
Botox and Xeomin are prescription botulinum toxin products. They have specific approved uses, and the product and intended treatment matter. Annapolis Dental Care offers Botox consultations; ask what is being proposed for your individual concern.
Ask about approval and evidence
Use for temporomandibular disorders is not FDA-approved. The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research reports mixed results and uncertainty about effectiveness for TMD symptoms. Discuss simpler options, potential benefits, risks, and whether a proposed use is off-label.
Share your health history
Tell the treating clinician about your medicines, previous injections, allergies, medical conditions, and pregnancy or breastfeeding. Ask about expected effects, side effects, follow-up, and the total estimate. These products are not interchangeable dose for dose.
Know when to seek help
Follow the instructions provided for your specific product and treatment. Get emergency medical help for difficulty breathing or swallowing after an injection. A consultation should help you decide whether to proceed; it should not promise a cure or a particular cosmetic result.
