What is a digital impression?

A digital impression creates a model of the visible surfaces of your teeth and bite. It helps your dentist and dental laboratory plan or fabricate suitable restorations or appliances. It is different from an X-ray used to assess structures beneath the surface.

How we use digital dentistry

Annapolis Dental Care offers digital dentistry for treatments that need impressions, including appropriate crown, denture, night-guard, and aligner cases. The method used depends on the clinical requirements of your treatment.

An impression is one part of care

Your treatment still starts with an assessment. Depending on the planned procedure, your dentist may also need X-rays, photographs, bite records, or additional impressions. Digital technology does not make every treatment suitable for every patient.

Before your appointment

Ask what records will be taken, how they will be used, and whether the treatment involves laboratory work or additional visits. Tell us if you have difficulty keeping your mouth open or tolerating impressions. We can explain the steps and discuss your comfort concerns.
