What are Veneers?

Veneers will help improve your smile!

A smile is one of the first thing a person notices about you. Is yours something you want people to notice? For many of us, chipped and crooked can be helped with porcelain veneers adhered to your original teeth. What makes veneers a perfect option for your smile? Let’s take a look.

What are Veneers?

Dental veneers, sometimes call porcelain veneers, are thin, custom made shells of tooth colored material designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve the appearance of your smile. Bonded to your natural teeth, these shells will change the color, shape, length, and size of your teeth. They are stain resistant and mimic the light reflecting properties of natural teeth. There are many problems that can be fixed with dental veneers including discoloration, worn down, chipped, broken, misaligned, uneven, irregular shaped and gapped teeth.

Bonding Veneers

Before a veneer is permanently cemented to your tooth, your Annapolis Dental Care dentist will be temporarily placed on your teeth to examine its fit and color. Your dentist will then remove and trim the veneer to achieve the proper fit. The veneer color will also be adjusted to match your smile. The next step is to have your teeth cleaned, polished, and etched to roughen the tooth and allow for. Special cement is then applied to both the veneer and your tooth to cement it into place. Once the cement is hardened into place, the excess cement will be removed and final adjustments will be made. These veneers can last between five to 10 years depending on how well they are taken care of. Veneers do not require any special care but do require the traditional oral hygiene like brushing and flossing.
