4 Tips for Treating Bruised Teeth

You need to know how to deal with bruised teeth, so here are some tips on how to do that.

Even if you’ve had years of dental health problems, you might have never seen a bruised tooth before. It’s much more common for the protective layers of enamel to crack open, or for the tooth to be broken due to a sports injury or an ordinary mishap. You need to know how to deal with bruised teeth, so here are some tips on how to do that.

Relieve Your Pain

Go to your local pharmacy and then get some pain relief medicine, either from the shelf or prescribed over the counter by your dentist. These treatments will help lessen the pain in your mouth from your bruised teeth. The pain is mainly caused by inflammation and swelling, and if you can make those go away, you will start to feel better already.

Get a Mouth Guard

It’s also possible that you grind your teeth. If you haven’t been getting restful enough sleep, it could be due to a condition that’s known as sleep apnea. Alternatively, you could grind your teeth in your sleep, damaging them in the process. That’s why you need a custom night guard to wear when you go to bed. This guard can help protect the teeth and the gums and muscles underneath them. You’re probably already aware that it’s a good idea to wear a mouthguard while you sleep, so don’t hesitate to get one even if you aren’t actively playing any sports.

Visit Your Dentist

Press your tongue to the tooth that you think is bruised. If it can move around under the lightest pressure, then the tooth is probably loose. At this point, it will need a splint. Splints are made of wire, resin, or nylon threads and bind the bruised tooth to the undamaged ones around it, stabilizing it in the process.

Wait

Sometimes, all you can do is wait. Treating your bruised teeth is important, but you don’t want to act too hastily. Allow your teeth to heal and listen to the advice that your dentist has for you. You may need to schedule multiple dentist’s visits, more than you would otherwise need without dental injuries.
