If you’re a dedicated hockey fan, then chances are you are following the Stanley Cup playoffs. You’re also more than likely familiar with how often hockey players deal with chipped, cracked, or broken teeth. When you’ve damaged your teeth, what can you do to fix it? Here are four possible options to consider.

Sedatives

When you have anxiety about visiting the dentist, some relaxation dentistry may be in order. Likewise, one way of treating a broken tooth is through the use of sedatives. For smaller breaks, this solution might be all you need, although a follow-up appointment would be necessary to check on how the tooth is doing. All the sedative can do is numb the pain temporarily. Still, if that isn’t enough, there are other ways of treating broken teeth.

Bonding

Depending on how severe the break is, your teeth may require this treatment instead. If your broken teeth are so loose that they are in danger of falling out, bonding can help. Bonding can also help stop your gums from bleeding. Any loose teeth are bonded to a tooth that is still intact next to it. Although this sounds unpleasant, it gives the broken teeth a chance to heal while protecting the deeper layers underneath the enamel and down to the roots, such as the bones holding your teeth in place.

Root Canals

Root canals don’t always have to be a source of dread. Though they have a bad reputation, these procedures can be quite helpful, especially since they help prevent infections in broken teeth before any other techniques, such as extractions, can remove the vulnerable teeth.

Extraction

Tooth extractions are the last resort for treating broken teeth. Removals might also have to be paired with a dental crown to help repair damaged teeth. Depending on the disposition of your teeth, dire circumstances may call for this to happen. An extraction will typically be followed by an implant along with follow-up appointments in the future to monitor how well your mouth is healing.
