Teeth Whitening and Proper After Care

Just because the holidays have come and gone doesn’t mean you can forget about teeth whitening.

Just because the holidays have come and gone doesn’t mean you can forget about teeth whitening. Here at Annapolis Dental Care, one of our many services includes teeth whitening and advice on how to take proper care of it after you’ve achieved your bright new smile.

Preventative Tips to Follow

If you’ve just had your teeth whitened, here are some pointers you can follow to make sure it doesn’t lose its vibrancy too soon.

Rinse your mouth out: No, we don’t recommend rinsing your mouth out with soap. Once you’re finished eating or drinking something, use some water to rinse your mouth right away – this way, you can stop any debris from settling on your teeth.

Stay hydrated: Drink as much water as you can to reap some tremendous health benefits. Even if you’re craving a soft drink or juice, water is your best choice for a beverage.

Don’t smoke: We’ve touched on the effects smoking can have on your oral and dental health, along with what it can do to your entire well-being. Avoid smoking or using tobacco products.

Minimize wine, coffee, and tea: Although you might think you can’t through the day without chugging three cups of coffee and having some tea after lunch, you can. Unwinding with a glass of wine might sound pleasant after a hard day at work, but not if you’ve just completed a teeth whitening regimen.

Don’t forget a straw: If you must have soda or some juice, don’t forget your straw. Using a straw to drink a cold beverage can also help your teeth are particularly sensitive.

How to Keep Your Mouth Healthy

Brushing matters: Even if you follow all the possible preventative tips to keep your teeth white, that’s not enough. At least, you shouldn’t leave it at that. Brushing your teeth still matters. As always, you should aim to do it at least twice a day, and in this case, use some toothpaste that has been formulated to be teeth whitening.

Carry travel-sizes: If you are always traveling, then you know how important it is to keep a travel-sized toothbrush and toothpaste with you so you can clean your teeth after eating when you’re on the road.
