5 Nutrients That Your Gums and Teeth Need

Your teeth and gums are two of the biggest components of your oral health, so what nutrients do you need?

Having a healthy, balanced diet is essential. When you follow this diet, you ensure that you feel better. Oral health is a key part of maintaining overall wellbeing. Your teeth and gums are two of the biggest components of your oral health, so what nutrients do you need? Let’s find out together.

Calcium

Calcium is good for your bones, but it’s also good for your teeth. The more calcium you have, the stronger your teeth become. Add more yogurt and milk into your daily diet to get more calcium. Sardines and salmon also have a heaping helping of calcium. For vegetarians and vegans, getting enough calcium could be a problem. Even so, leafy greens, nutrient-fortified cereals, and even blackstrap molasses can be delicious options.

Phosphorus

Phosphorus is another nutrient that is commonly found in your body. Most of it goes towards reinforcing your teeth and it also benefits your gums as well. Without enough phosphorus, your body won’t be able to regenerate tissue as easily, and your teeth will be weaker. Eat plenty of proteins to help get more phosphorus in your diet, but chances are good that you won’t have to do anything special.

Vitamin D

Now let’s move onto vitamin D, which you can get from absorbing sunlight. In these challenging times, it can be hard to get outside, though. Milk and cereal have plenty of vitamin D in them to help strengthen your teeth and gums.

Vitamin A

Did you know that vitamin A is good for your eyes? It’s also good for your oral health as well, which means both your teeth and your gums will benefit. Be sure to eat poultry, dairy, meat, fruits, and veggies to make sure that you get enough of it.

Vitamin C

Everyone knows what vitamin C is, especially if you love drinking orange juice. If you want to improve the health of your gums, then it’s time to double down on this vitamin. It helps create new blood vessels, strengthens your gums, and helps with bleeding gums.
